About Ana Violeta Horta

Mexican-American Eco Artist. Living between San Diego and Tijuana.

Ana Violeta Horta is a Mexican-American eco artist living the border life between San Diego and Tijuana. Her multicultural path has also taken her to London, Boston, Monterrey, Saltillo, Ensenada and Austin to work, study and move between the corporate and art worlds.

Everything changed when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She adapted her life so that her passion for creating art would not suffer, and in the process developed her own style: making her own sustainable paint with natural ingredients, combining materials used for centuries with modern practices.

After 20 years in the sustainable energy industry and education in sustainability and circular economies, she has prioritized an art practice built around natural mineral pigments, plant-based mediums and sustainable supports, so that the way each painting is made carries the same values as its subject.

Her work addresses environmental damage, social systems, border identity, chronic illness and humanity's relationship with nature. She believes art can help people reconsider that relationship and repair the harm done to the earth.
